As Mãos de Aurora

The Beira mountains · Paris · Toronto, 1934–2016

God forgive me the arithmetic.

The village said she let a child die. She let them say it.

On a blizzard night in 1972 a mountain midwife had to choose between a mother and the child she could not save, and lived under the village's verdict ever after. Her ledger and her son's unsent letter — two fragments that give her impossible choice its true name.

On the Atlas, this seal is pressed only for a reader who gathers every scattered fragment of this life and binds them together. Earn it, and it is kept on your ribbons.
